Derek Power was introduced to Colorado Springs in 2017 when he volunteered to take a new position as a Medic at Fort Carson. Derek immediately fell in love with the area from the first morning he stepped outside to the backdrop of the mountains, and the subtle sounds of nature all around. With the endless activities through all the seasons, the attitude, outlook, and hospitality of the people of Colorado Springs, Derek knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life here. Derek lived his entire life in Massachusetts until the age of 32 when he joined the Army, leaving the smell and sounds of the ocean and everything he knew behind for a much bigger cause. The drive and motivation to help and guide others turned into a passion for Derek. Even though Derek’s time in the service has come to a close, his passion to serve continues to grow. After caring for and building strong relationships with his soldiers for 7 years, Derek is excited to be turning that focus of care, dedication, and values to the community of Colorado Springs that he has grown to love! Derek has recently bought a home in the Security area and constantly plays jokes and pranks on his beautiful wife Poliana, amazing son Austin, and their 3 beautiful dogs Arya, Drogo, and Phoenix (yes, the dogs too).
